The original consumer connection option, the analog modem, is still viable for many users. It is affordable, versatile, and doesn't require any special installation. If you have a computer and a phone line, you probably already have everything you need in order to use this connection technology.
Modems are the slowest connection option available for Internet access. A modem connection is suitable for a small office setting, with one to five people at most. Modem connections come in two versions: dialup and dedicated. A dialup connection only connects to the Internet when it is in use, while a dedicated connection is always on. Most modem users use the less expensive dialup connection. A standard phone line is necessary to use a modem. |
